Empowering Teen Moms to Keep Their Babies and Build a Future
Every young mother deserves support, not stigma. We help displaced and at-risk teen moms find safe housing, education, and a pathway to purpose.
Because every life was purposely chosen.
Our Impact Since 2006
Our Mission
Our mission is to help displaced teen moms keep their babies through non-stigmatizing support, advocacy, and parenting education.
We help displaced teen moms keep their babies through our licensed STRTP (Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program) maternity home, providing specialized therapeutic care for homeless, runaway, and abandoned pregnant and parenting youth ages 13-21.
At Purposely Chosen, we offer unreserved help, hope, and healing—providing structured stabilization and trauma-informed care while meeting basic needs like shelter, food, water, love, and respect, alongside clinical support, education, advocacy, and access to community resources to ensure healthy pregnancies and deliveries.
"Helping these adolescents discover their supreme purpose in life."
Why We Exist
The Crisis
In Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, thousands of children and teens are involved in the child welfare system each year due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. More than 4,000 children are currently in foster care in Riverside County, and over 5,000 in San Bernardino County.
At the same time, teen birth rates in the Inland Empire remain higher than the California average. Riverside County reports approximately 10 births per 1,000 teens ages 15–19, while San Bernardino County reports over 12 births per 1,000 — exceeding statewide trends.
For youth in foster care, the risks are even greater. Research shows that more than 1 in 10 girls in foster care give birth before age 18, and nearly 3 in 10 have given birth before age 20.
The Reality
When displaced teens in foster care become pregnant, the challenges multiply.
These young mothers often face:
- Housing instability
- Disrupted education
- Limited family support
- Barriers to prenatal care
- Increased risk of repeat system involvement
Without stable, non-stigmatizing support, many are forced to navigate parenthood while still healing from trauma and system disruption.
The result is not just individual hardship — it is generational instability.
Our Response
Purposely Chosen exists to help displaced teen moms keep their babies through non-stigmatizing support, advocacy, and parenting education.
In Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, we provide:
- Safe, stable maternity housing
- Parenting education and life skills training
- Individualized advocacy and case management
- Connection to healthcare and community resources
- A supportive environment where young mothers are treated with dignity
We are not simply addressing teen pregnancy.
We are strengthening families, protecting children, and disrupting cycles of foster care involvement — one young mother at a time.
